Random Baking.

Some of my recent baking attempts have gone well and others ...... not so well! The brownies were in the oven a lot longer than the recipe stated and were still undercooked and the cookies spread out so much and had to be carved back into cookie sized pieces. And they fell apart! I think it may be an egg issue. We buy our eggs from a local farm and I recently realised that they are a fair bit bigger than the eggs sold in the supermarket. So now I know the problem ( I think!) I just have to figure out how to fix it!

Blessings,

Jenny

  1. Jenny, it is all looking really good there! Have you got an oven thermometer to check your temperature in the oven is what is supposed to be? The way those cookies spread, and what you say about your brownies, it sounds more like your oven was not hot enough. You can pick one up in most kitchen shops and I really think it would be worth your while.

    1. I will have to look into that! This oven is supposed to be pretty accurate on temperature according to the reviews that is why I suspected the eggs! x

  2. What is the other baked item? In the last picture? It looks lovely! I am gong to attempt sourdough bread in a day or two, I just obtained a good viable batch of sourdough starter.

  3. What is the third item, in the last picture? It looks like a lovely rustic bread!

  4. Your brownies still look delicious. I agree with Deborah Celtic Heart, your oven may not be hot enough. I have a 50+ year old gas stove. My brownies used to do that until I realized that my oven needs to preheat for a long time and, this is just my old oven, I set the dial warmer. I've been using the same stove for over 30 years. You will get to know how your oven does with different foods after a while. In the mean time an oven thermometer is a great idea. They are not too expensive.
You are lucky to be able to get fresh farm eggs. They are so much better than store eggs.

    1. Farm eggs are so much nicer! I am hoping that home grown vegetables will be better tasting than those in the supermarket .... providing they grow this year! x

  5. We have had the exact same problem making brownies since we've been here! I don't know how it can be the oven, because nothing else has to be cooked that much longer. I did finally find a recipe that works (even though I have to cook it somewhat longer than it calls for.)

Things can still be yummy, even when they don't turn out like the picture :) The cookies look delicious - especially with the smarties!

    1. They all tasted nice I just wish they had looked a little better!

Maybe there is some sort of English weather issue with brownies! :) x
