April 6th.

The loveliest flowers the closest cling to earth,
And they first feel the sun; so violets blue,
So the soft star-like primrose drenched in dew,
The happiest of Spring's happy, fragrant birth.

J Keble

I love the imagery in this poem! I can just picture the little violets, not pushing themselves forward or being overly extravagant and yet they are noticed and valued. I have some pretty violets in my garden and they smell so sweet! They really are adorable flowers.  I am so grateful to have found the birthday book as there are poems, like this one, that I had not read before.
